Terence Brown is one of Ireland's foremost literary and cultural historians, and taught at Trinity College Dublin from 1976 until his retirement in 2009. He was made Professor of Anglo-Irish Literature in 1993, and served as Dean of Arts and Humanities from 2005 to 2007. His many publications include a biography of George Moore, Dissolute Characters, Ireland: A Social and Cultural History 1922-2002, The Life of W.B.Yeats, Louis MacNeice: Sceptical Vision, An Ulster Renaissance: Poets from the North of Ireland, and his forthcoming study, The Irish Times: 150 Years of Influence (Bloomsbury, 2015).

He co-edited The Essential Brendan Kennelly (Bloodaxe Books, 2011) with Michael Longley, and contributed an essay on Kennelly’s novels to Richard Pine’s critical study, Dark Fathers into Light: Brendan Kennelly (Bloodaxe Books, 1994).
