She will be reading at Verve alongside Jacob Sam-La Rose, whose first full-length collection Breaking Silence was published by Bloodaxe in 2011. It was shortlisted for both the Forward Prize for Best First Collection and the Fenton Aldeburgh First Collection Prize 2012.

Amy Key will also be reading from her second book-length collection Isn't Forever , which was also published by Bloodaxe in June 2018.  It was a Poetry Book Society Wild Card Choice for Summer 2018.

READING BY JACOB SAM-LA ROSE & MONIZA ALVI

Sunday 17 February 2019, 6-7.30pm, Verve Poetry Festival, Birmingham

The Old Rep Theatre, 45 Station Street, Birmingham B5 4DY

Jacob Sam-La Rose, Alison Brackenbury & Moniza Alvi

The penultimate event at this year’s Verve Festival is the Sunday night poetry headliner, featuring readings and discussion with three poets.  Jacob Sam-La Rose will be reading alongside fellow Bloodaxe poet  Moniza Alvi. Her collection At The Time Of Partition (2013) was enthralling and was followed in 2018 by Blackbird, Bye Bye.

Jacob Sam-La Rose is a force of nature in verse, but is so busy educating and working with young poets that he rarely gets to read himself.  His debut collection Breaking Silence was published by Bloodaxe in 2011, and was shortlisted for both the Forward Prize for Best First Collection and the Fenton Aldeburgh First Collection Prize 2012.

Alison Brackenbury has published  nine collections.  She will be launching her Selected Poems, Gallop (Carcanet) at Verve.
