Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze was interviewed by Jane Garvey on Woman's Hour about her new collection The Verandah Poems.  Jean talked about coming to the UK in 1985 the day before the Brixton riots, about how she came to be the first female dub poet, and about her life back in Jamaica.  She read the long poems ‘Heat’ and ‘No ghost’ from The Verandah Poems and also read from memory a poem her mother had taught her when she was five.

An extract from Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze lovely interview with Jane Garvey on Woman’s Hour from 5 April was included on Weekend Woman’s Hour on 9 April.  It was introduced by Jane Garvey, who tagged it to Jean’s new collection of poetry The Verandah Poems

The interview started at the point where Jean was talking about the pleasures of outside living on the verandah in Jamaica.  Her reading of her two long poems ‘Heat’ and ‘No ghost’ were also included in full, after which Jane Garvey wound up the item by saying of Jean’s poems: ‘when she reads them out they are just brilliant, absolutely brilliant’.

A full-page interview with Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze ran in The Voice newspaper of 10-16 March.  The feature, entitled ‘Life’s a Breeze’, was illustrated with a large colour author photo and a photo of the cover of The Verandah Poems. In this candid interview, Jean spoke about relationships, her return to Jamaica and her love of performing.
